When looking closely, you will see the remains of shells tightly packed on the stone beach by the sea. This is the result of geological changes. This area was originally a large freshwater swamp, where there were many shells, especially bitter snails. Later, the earth’s surface changed and the seawater flooded the swamp, causing the limestone in the seawater to wrap around the shells until they became a single piece, forming a solid rock sheet about 40 centimeters thick. Later, the land was lifted, creating a large stone platform by the sea. Geological calculations estimate that these fossils are approximately 40 million years old.
  • “Ao Nang” is a long sandy beach along the beach road. It is home to many shops, accommodations and tour companies. The surrounding scenery is beautiful with tall limestone mountains. • “Phi Phi Islands” are an archipelago in the middle of the sea, 42 kilometers from Mueang District. Originally, the sea people called this island “Pulao Piapi”. The word “Pulao” means an island. The word “Piapi” means a type of sea tree, such as a mangrove and a rhododendron. Later, it was called “Ton Pipi”, which later became “Phi Phi”, which is known as the kingdom of flowers under the sea.
